I have been very fortunate in my work. Only seven years ago, all I had in the world was $2000 in the bank put aside to pay my income taxes. So this wasn't money I could really use for myself. At the time, I was renting Jerry Houston's studio in a freelance capacity. Business was pretty mediocre to say the least, and, when Jerry told me he was about to get out of the studio business and put his equipment in storage, I was at a loss as to what I should do. I had done this kind of work for almost twenty years and couldn't think of anything else to do. I searched the newspapers, but there was just nothing else that I wanted to do. Then a friend suggested taking over the lease of the space Jerry had. At first I scoffed at the idea. Then, I decided to take a deep breath and go for it. I constantly kept thinking to myself, "Build it and they will come." Jerry did me the greatest favour by leaving his equipment with the understanding that he could use it when needed It was really scary. I needed $1000 deposit and a $1000 for the first month's rent. (Strangely enough, just the amount I had in the bank) "Oh well," I thought. "Uncle Sam will have to come second. "
In the past seven years, I have replaced all of Jerry's equipment with brand new gear and it is all paid for and I haven't really looked back. I've been given so many wonderful opportunities and had a lot of fun using this equipment.
I have garnered a lot of experience and developed quite a talent over the past twenty years or so and I earnestly want to put it and the facility I have to good use. Every opportunity I get, I would like to use my expertise to make a difference in this world.
Following are some of the things I have given my time and talents to and my ultimate goal is to travel the world and record children singing in their native languages and compile a cd ( or cd's) of World Children's Song. To do this would be quite a daunting undertaking and would require a sponsor or sponsors to provide funding. If you know of any individual or organization who might be interested in such a worthwhile project, please let me know.
If there's a project you have in mind that would truly make a difference in the world and the budget is low or non-existent, I hope you would consider me in lending my talents and expertise to the project at a price the budget could comfortably bear.

I've visited the Bahai center in Dallas quite frequently and enjoy so much the music that is played by Bahai members. Almost every
Sunday that I've been there, I've been treated to a wonderful lunch and, as a gift to these warm, friendly people, I'm putting together a cd
of Bahai musicians and singers with the theme of Love and Unity. avid Fozi

Shakuhachi Flute
During the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, a commemoration was held at the Cathedral Guadalupe on Ross Avenue. It was a very touching service, made even more so by the story of the crane. As I sat in the cathedral, I heard this haunting sound coming from where I could not tell. It seemed to be permeating the whole cathedral with no substance, almost like the air itself. Then, its source was revealed as Stan Richardson
slowly made his way down the aisle playing a shakuhachi flute. It was the most surreal sound and it gave the whole service a very meditative feel. Afterwards I approached Bob Dennis with the Dallas Peace Center who had put on this beautiful event and asked him if I could ever be of help. He told me later that the whole event had been video taped but the sound of the shakuhachi wasn't captured very accurately so could I record the pieces at my studio. This was when I got to meet Stan, a native of Coventry in England and living in Dallas. We have become good friends.

From Puerto Vallarta
Mexico
I spent a week around Christmas during the incredible Festival of the Virgin de Guadalupe in Puerto Vallarta. The streets are just lined with thousands upon thousands of men, women and children patiently moving forward at a snail's pace to pay their respects and offer a gift to the Virgin. I had read about Flor Estrada, a little girl who had lost both legs when a truck reversed over her and had decided to make a tape of "The Sounds of Puerto Vallarta" to be sold to help pay for some of the tremendous expenses her family had to pay. I recorded in restaurants, on hotel rooftops, at the beach, outside cafes and inside this beautiful church where all different kinds of bands march in playing the same infectious tune. Some in a jazz style, others like this one, mariachi. At one point there is this amazing cacophony as one band is totally inside the church and another is coming in. What a sound!!! And if only you could see the pride on the faces of these fine men as they sang this song.
